Expertenkommission Forschung und Innovation presents Report to the Federal Government:
The Expertenkommission Forschung und Innovation (EFI) presented this year’s report to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 26 February 2025. The six-member commission provides scientific advice to the Federal Government and has been presenting annual reports on research, innovation and Germany’s technological performance since 2008.
The current report emphasizes the outstanding importance of research and innovation (R&I) for the German economy, both looking back on the past legislative period and looking forward to the coming one. In addition to recommendations for action for national R&I policy, the 2025 report is dedicated to the key topics of „Transformativer Strukturwandel durch Digitalisierung und Dekarbonisierung“, „Quantentechnologien“, and „Innovationen in der Wasserwirtschaft“.
The EFI underlines that an efficient R&I system is crucial for the competitiveness of companies and the transformation to an environmentally friendly economy. It also strengthens sovereignty in key and future technologies and supports the digital transformation. Federal Research Minister Cem Özdemir emphasized the importance of innovative strength for global competition and warned against the loss of prosperity and security without independent know-how. Quantum Technologies in particular offer enormous opportunities. Click here for more information on the EFI Report 2025.
