Hannover Messe 2026

SQuaD represented at Hannover Messe 2026 with its own booth:

Hannover Messe is an international industrial trade fair that has been held annually in Hanover since 1947 (until 1962 under the name “Deutsche Industrie-Messe”). It brings together several international flagship fairs covering key future-oriented topics. In 2026, these included Quantum Technologies within the research and technology transfer domain, as well as special showcases on other key technologies, including IT/OT security. In this context, SQuaD was represented with its own booth together with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB).

The fair took place from 20 to 24 April 2026, at the Hanover Fairground and offered exhibitors from more than 40 countries as well as around 11,000 participants a diverse and high-quality programme. The umbrella project was also prominently represented: On the second day of the fair, Dr. Nicolas Spethmann, Head of the Quantum Technology Competence Center (QTZ) at PTB and spokesperson for SQuaD, gave an overview talk entitled “Quantum Key Distribution and Quantum Communication: Enabling the Future of Secure Communication.” In his talk, he provided a comprehensive overview of the potential of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for digital security, as well as the background, objectives, and activities of SQuaD.

Looking back, despite its strong industrial focus, Hannover Messe proved to be an excellent opportunity for SQuaD to network and engage with experts and interested stakeholders from the international Quantum Technology Community. The booth, decorated with umbrellas and featuring exhibits such as a single-photon source, a BB84 demonstrator, and a CV-QKD device from project partner KEEQuant GmbH, attracted numerous visitors. They learned about the potential risks posed by future Quantum Computers, as well as about SQuaD and current developments in the field of Quantum Communication. Furthermore, the fair proved to be a valuable platform for obtaining direct feedback from the community, increasing the visibility of the umbrella project in Germany, and gaining important impulses for future activities.
