SQuaD as an Exhibitor at the Nationale Konferenz IT-Sicherheitsforschung 2025:
Around 400 guests, speakers and exhibitors came together in Berlin from 17 to 19 March 2025 for the Nationale Konferenz IT-Sicherheitsforschung. The event, organized by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF), was held under the motto “Cybersecurity and Democracy” and brought together leading experts from science, business and politics to discuss innovative solutions for a secure and cyber-resilient future. The event started with an evening program that focused on the social relevance of IT security. On the following two conference days, participants were treated to a varied program of keynote speeches, insights into BMBF-funded projects, and diverse networking opportunities. The central topics of the conference included the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on IT security, the increase in AI-based disinformation, human-centered IT security, digital freedom and privacy, and cyber security in the quantum age. The last topic area also included SQuaD’s exhibition booth.
The first day of the conference was dedicated to the topic “Secure and sovereign – protecting democracy in the digital space”. In this context, the session “Encryption and networking – Quantum Communication for more IT security” also addressed Quantum Communication. Project speaker Dr. Nicolas Spethmann presented the structure and goals of SQuaD and gave an overview of the project’s achievements to date. In the subsequent panel discussion, the participants gained valuable insights into the activities of the QR.N and QuNET projects, as well as the perspectives of the industry, represented by KEEQuant GmbH and Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs GmbH. The discussion highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the field and the need for a continuous exchange between research and industry. The program was complemented by poster presentations on topics such as anonymity, post-quantum cryptography (PQK), and disinformation, which sparked thought-provoking discussions.
The theme of the second day of the conference was “Innovative into the future – challenges of IT security research.” The focus was on addressing disinformation and the current and future challenges in the field of IT security. The content kicked off a spotlight that brought together different perspectives on the detection of and defense against targeted digital manipulation. In the following sessions, key topics such as cyber security at scientific institutions and the secure use of artificial intelligence were explored in greater depth. he focus also shifted to issues relating to innovation, transfer, and social responsibility. As on the previous day, the program offered numerous opportunities for networking and professional exchange – for example during individual tours of the exhibition and at the poster presentations.
In summary, the Nationale Konferenz IT-Sicherheitsforschung 2025 offered fascinating insights into current research, technological developments, and the challenges of cybersecurity – one of the central tasks of our time. The event made it clear that a close exchange between science, business, and politics is essential in order to sustainably transfer innovative IT security solutions into practice and thereby protect our democratic values.
