SQuaD meets QR.N

SQuaD visits the QR.N Kick-off Meeting in Bad Honnef:

About 90 participants attended the two-day kick-off meeting of the joint project Quantenrepeater.Net (QR.N) at the Physics Center Bad Honnef on 13 and 14 February 2025. The meeting was kicked off by project speaker Prof. Dr. Christoph Becher, who presented the organization and central goals of QR.N. After a welcome address by Daniel Behrendt from the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF), the heads of the four central platforms Halbleiter-Quantenpunkte”, “Diamant-Farbzentren”, “Atome und Ionen” and “Theorie” gave detailed insights into their achievements to date and future research projects. In addition to presenting the technological advances within the platforms, they also discussed overarching synergies and possible interfaces between the various approaches.

Particular focus was placed on the challenges of developing scalable Quantum Repeater Technologies as well as innovative approaches for optimizing signal transmission and error correction in Quantum Networks. The next steps for the practical implementation of Quantum Repeaters in real communication infrastructures were also discussed.

External presentations and exciting poster sessions illustrated the versatility of the topic and emphasized the essential role of Quantum Repeaters for Quantum Networks and an increasingly networked world. After a successful start, we look forward to the next three years of intensive research, collaboration, and innovation in the field of Quantum Repeaters and Quantum Networks.
