Workshop on the Development of a German QTF-Backbone:
To support “Developing a perspective” for the “QTF-Backbone”, an optical fiber backbone for simultaneous Quantum Communication and Time and Frequency Distribution, a workshop was held at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig on 11 and 12 November 2024. The workshop brought together ca. 50 stakeholders from the German user community. Two international guests, Christian Chardonnet and Davide Calonico, highlighted well the significance of a German QTF-Backbone with talks on the R&D optical fiber backbones in France and Italy, correspondingly.
The workshop was a success in stimulating, on the one hand, insights into and further development of scientific and industry use cases of the QTF-Backbone by the user community. On the other hand, stimulating the further development of the perspective needs of the user community, e.g. concerning questions of topology, technical structure, governance, operation, integration of the state initiatives for fiber networks and relevance to the European R&D networks.
